As the world slows and quiets during this time of physical distancing, we’re able to listen more intently. Step outside and into nature – what do you hear?

She Is Awakening is a community art and sound project by Myths and Mirrors and Coalition for a Livable Sudbury in Atikameksheng Anishnaabek territory. Using 60+ field recordings submitted by folks from all over, artist EMILIO PORTAL created the almost 30 minute soundscape, She is Awakening; as well as the additional compositions Gatineau Owls, Vancouver Island Grouse, and Vancouver Island Grouse 2.

We invite you to take some time to listen to the tracks offered here and be inspired. What do you hear? As you reflect on our shared and individual connections to nature, create a piece of artwork – it could be a painting or drawing, a piece of writing, photography, or even dance – and submit it by email to mythsandmirrors@gmail.com before Sunday, July 12th. We’ll showcase your artwork online and at our virtual celebration of She Is Awakening on Saturday, July 18th, 2020. Please include the title of your piece and how you would like to be credited.

She Is Awakening is a collaborative project conceived by Emilio Portal, Naomi Grant, Will Morin, Darlene, and Cora-Rae Silk. We thank everyone for their contributions to the project.
